Consumer Protection Act (Ontario)

The Ontario statute that governs consumer transactions, including a 10-day cooling-off period for direct agreements and the 2018 amendments that target unfair HVAC and home equipment contracts.

Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (the 'CPA') sets out cancellation rights, disclosure obligations, and unfair-practice rules for consumer transactions. It applies to most contracts entered into for personal, family, or household purposes.

For Oakwell-relevant cases, the most important provisions are the cooling-off rights under section 43, the unfair-practice provisions, and the regulations adopted in 2017-2018 that addressed door-to-door sales of furnaces, water heaters, heat pumps, and air filtration systems.
